Food Survey
The Timiskaming Health Unit conducts a food cost survey every year in local grocery stores to calculate the cost of eating well in the district of Timiskaming. Data collected in 2008 revealed that the cost to purchase groceries for a nutritionally adequate diet is $143.32 per week, or $620.58 per month for a family of four (two adults with two children). Walkable Communities
An amendment to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act banning adults from smoking in cars where children under the age of 16 are present comes into effect January 21st, 2009. For more information about creating a smoke-free ride, click here.

Physical Activity in Children - Report Card 2008
The 2008 Report Card on Physicial Activity for Children and Youth -released today by Active Healthy Kids Canada and its partners Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute - Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group (CHEO-HALO) and ParticipACTION.
Canada's Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth for 2008 is the fourth annual overview of key indicators in relation to the physical activity levels of Canada's young people. While the Report Card is again a comprehensive overview of issues, this year the focus is on screen time and physical activity.
